A year ago, Google started recognizing Page Experience as a ranking factor in an attempt to prioritize user experience among overall ranking scores. Page experience includes two main types of signals:

HTTP Archive published a research report in which CMS achieved the best Core Web Vitals scores. The HTTP Archive challenge examined WordPress along with Drupal, Joomla, Squarespace, and Wix. According to the report, the top-ranked CMS for LCP is Drupal, whereas the lowest-ranked CMS is Wix. Drupal SEO is the winner, but only because of the other CMS scores which were very low.   

On the other hand, the FID scores were very high. In terms of Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), Drupal was the winner again, but this time with a solid 70% of Drupal website development sites providing a quality CLS experience. Wix came in third place, beating WordPress in the long run.   

What are the top CMSs for Core Web Vitals?  

According to a recent survey, the top-performing content management systems (CMS) have been listed. Duda refers to a professional website builder platform that allows businesses to quickly get online without thinking much about the underlying technology. Its prime focus is to give customers the ability to focus on their business while Duda takes care of the entire technical whereabouts.   

Duda, when reviewed by HTTP Archive technology report data, it was leading the pack by a significant margin, leaving behind the Wix and Squarespace data. This trend continues with the latest performance data published this year.   

This Core Web Vital has outpaced the competition with exceptional wide margins. Wix, in the second place, is trailing behind Duda by 23%. However, it doesn’t surprise the market as experts indicated that website performance will be the prime focus of Duda. A data-driven approach got shared to identify areas of improvement, which resulted in rolling out updates to customer websites for them to enjoy the user-friendly and quick performance.   


The second winner that made this list is the open-source CMS Drupal. Previously this position was held by Wix, but with the last survey, the percentage of Drupal development agency sites with a good core web vitals score exceeded 50.2%.   

In 2022, Drupal races past Wix with a score of 58.2%, with Wix trailing behind with a score of 54.0%. 


Instead of focusing on performance improvement, the percentage of sites with a passing core web vitals fell, unfortunately. It contributed to Wix dropping from position #2 to #3. Experts report that Wix’s performance was at 55.3% of sites built with Wix enjoying a passing core web vital score.   


Squarespace is leaping ahead with a strong improvement to the performance of its platform. In past surveys, it got ranked at 31.45% of sites passing CWV. In the most recent survey, 42.84% of Squarespace sites have a passing CWV score.   


WordPress performance increased from 31% to a whopping 37.4%, which is a significant amount of improvement. It reflects the fine work of the WordPress performance team working with WordPress to enhance it further.   

The WordPress performance team recently released an experimental performance plugin as part of their effort to try out performance improvements before implementing it into the main WordPress core.   


Unfortunately, Joomla didn’t make it into the rankings surveyed by HTTP Archive last time. However, this year, it has scored 30.5%, which has helped Joomla jump right behind WordPress with a score of 35%.
